The Naiads Project is a collaborative project dedicated to Californian Underground Water Resources Research. Naiads is the acronym for: "New Artificial Intelligence Assistant Designed for Stanford". Also, in Greek mythology, the Naiads (Greek: Ναϊάδες) are a type of female spirit, or nymph, presiding over fountains, wells, springs, streams, brooks, and other bodies of fresh water. They are distinct from river gods, who embodied rivers, and the very ancient spirits that inhabited the still waters of marshes, ponds, and lagoon-lakes, such as pre-Mycenaean Lerna in the Argolis. Naiads were associated with fresh water. The project supports scientific research currently run at Stanford University, by unlocking the information and knowledge embedded in a huge amount of documents retrieved from various origins. This knowledge extraction is done partially by hand but also is largely automated thanks to Artificial Intelligence, in particular, Natural Language Processing and Document AI. But to perform better and better, this AI needs to be trained with data produced by humans. The main idea behind this project is to give all Californians the possibility to participate in this challenging project by producing insights from a large corpus of technical documents of various origins, various vintages, and various natures. Today, humans are still much better than Artificial Intelligence for extracting valuable information from technical documents and it is exactly where you can help this project. You can go to the "How you can help" page for further information. A great adventure is beginning today. Water Resources management is such a great challenge for California, any help is welcome. Thanks in advance The Naiads Project team. PS: The Naiads Project has been initiated by a team of geoscientists, data scientists, and computer scientists originating from Stanford University and other origins and managed by Petroglyphs NLP Consulting, a tiny consulting startup specializing in AI applied to Geosciences Knowledge Management.
